Dr. House

House, M.D. is posibly one of the best television series ever made. House is always doing something entertaining, like putting Cuddy's drawer upside down in her desk or taking the bolts out of Wilson's char. The show has a great sarcastic humor and there is always the main story with events happening to keep you on the edge of your seat. And if that is not enough for you, there is always something being revieled about Dr. House and who he is. He may even be like a medical Gumbo.

Here is a very good summary of House, M.D.

From executive producers Paul Attanasio, Katie Jacobs, David Shore, and Bryan Singer comes a new take on mystery, where the villain is a medical malady and the hero is an irreverent, controversial doctor who trusts no one, least of all his patients.

Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is devoid of bedside manner and wouldn't even talk to his patients if he could get away with it. Dealing with his own constant physical pain, he uses a cane that seems to punctuate his acerbic, brutally honest demeanor. While his behavior can border on antisocial, House is a maverick physician whose unconventional thinking and flawless instincts have afforded him a great deal of respect. An infectious disease specialist, he's a brilliant diagnostician who loves the challenges of the medical puzzles he must solve in order to save lives.

My Tattoo

This past weekend, I was reminded that I had a tattoo on my forearm that I completely forgot about. I know it sounds weird but it is an "invisible tattoo" that only shows up under black light. Right now I have the Ulna and the Radius on my right arm, but I am going to have the wrist and finger bones done in my right hand as well.
Here are some pictures of what it will look like when finished, both under a black light and regular light.

Eat Bugs at McDonalds

Cochineal and Carmine are deep crimson food dyes that are extracted from the female cochineal insects. It is used in foods such as alcoholic drinks, bakery products and toppings, cookies, desserts, icings, pie fillings, jams, preserves, gelatin desserts, juice beverages, varieties of cheddar cheese and other dairy products, sauces and sweets. Cochineal is also used to color Mcdonalds Strawberry
Quake Maker - http://www.quakemaker.com
The average human consumes one to two drops of carminic acid each year with food. The insects are killed by immersion in hot water (after which they are dried) or by exposure to sunlight, steam, or the heat of an oven. Each method produces a different colour which results in the varied appearance of commercial cochineal. The insects are then dried and ground into a powder.

Maybe not the smartest idea?

On Dec. 17, 1997, an episode of "Pokemon" was aired on Japanese television that induced seizures in hundreds of people throughout the country of Japan. The ages of those affected ranged from 3 to 58 years old. Ironically, the TV news reports played the perpetrating scene excerpt of flashing red lights, causing even more people to be afflicted with epileptic-type symptoms, in case they had missed the first one.

Going Green by Going Black

Asphalt road surface is the most widely recycled material in the US, both by gross tonnage and by percentage. According to a report issued by the Federal Highway Administration and the United States Environmental Protection Agency, 80% of the asphalt from road surfaces' that is removed each year during widening and resurfacing projects is reused as part of new roads, roadbeds, shoulders and embankments.

Origin of Boy Scouts

During the Siege of Mafeking in the Second Boer War, Robert Baden-Powell recruited and trained 12-15 year old boys as scouts. The Mafeking Cadet Corps was a group of youths that supported the troops by carrying messages, which freed the men for military duties. The Cadet Corps performed well, helping in the defense of the town, and were one of the many factors that inspired Baden-Powell to form the Boy Scouts, a youth organisation originally run along military lines.

Weird Contract Clause

Van Halen's standard concert contract called for them to be provided with a bowl of M&Ms backstage, but with provision that all the brown candies must be removed. The presence of even a single brown M&M in that bowl, was sufficient legal cause for Van Halen to peremptorily cancel a scheduled appearance without advance notice. The legendary "no brown M&Ms" contract clause was indeed real, but the purported motivation for it was not. The M&Ms provision was included in Van Halen's contracts not as an act of caprice, but because it served a practical purpose: to provide an easy way of determining whether the technical specifications of the contract had been thoroughly read (and complied with).

Another Interesting Frog Fact

It was discovered on a space mission that a frog can throw up. The frog throws up its stomach first, so the stomach is dangling out of its mouth. Then the frog uses its forearms to dig out all of the stomach's contents and then swallows the stomach back down again.

Don't watch if you have a weak stomach...

College Students

About 70% of Americans who go to college do it just to make more money. The rest of us are avoiding reality for four more years.

Jiffy

A "jiffy" is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second. I never knew this, makes sense now.

RockBand

Rock Band is probably one of the most fun games ever. It has great music, is fun, and very entertaining. It is even fun to play drunk... My friends and I have played it for hours and hours on end. Here are a few of my favorite bands and songs. All from Rock Band.

Sunday Night Television

Sunday night and the break is over, at least for a couple of weeks. Is it not kind of amazing how there is nothing worth watching after 9pm on a Sunday night? I mean you get the Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill, and American Dad, but after that it is pretty much a snooze fest. I wonder if it is a conspiracy to get students to do there homework and go to bed early?!? lol Probably not...
or is it?

Four Stages of Life

This picture made me laugh, the four stages of life... How true.
I think I am some where between the second and third.

Wal Mart Commercial Duex

Well, I see that I am not the only one scouring the internet to find this ad. One guy even mentions it on that twitter website.

Twitter Post

Yahoo Board

Other Site Post

The search continues...

Wal Mart Commercial

It has been driving me nuts, that I can not find the Wal Mart / Coca Cola Christmas ad. I went to a couple of movies this weekend and there was a really catchy ad for Wal Mart and Coke and I can not find the video any where. It mentions twitter and myspace and I thought it would be a good video to post on here. AHH! This is driving me insane.

New DS game to help people quit smoking

Nintendo has come out with a game set that can supposedly help people to quit smoking. The weird game is based on books written by anti-smoking guru Allen Carr, and video game maker Ubisoft is developing a title to coach smokers away from cigarettes.

There are apparently 15 anti-smoking games to choose from, including one set in a disco where a cigarette-shaped monster tries to pull the gamer outside for a smoke. To save themselves, players must draw lines to connect themselves to fellow virtual dancers. How effective the games will be remains to be seen. But hey, it just might work!

A good laugh

For several years, a man was having an affair with an Italian woman. One night, she confided in him that she was pregnant. Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, he paid her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to secretly have the child. If she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would also provide child support until the child turned 18.

She agreed, but asked how he would know when the baby was born. To keep it discrete, he told her to simply mail him a post card, and write ‘Spaghetti’ on the back. He would then arrange for the child support payments to begin. One day, about 9 months later, he came home to his confused wife.

‘Honey’, she said, ‘you received a very strange post card today’.
‘Oh, really? Let me see…’, he said.

The wife gave it to him and watched as her husban read the card, turned white, and fainted. On the card was written:

‘Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti.

Two with meatballs, one without.
Send extra sauce.’

Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii

This is the actual name of a nine-year old girl from New Zealand. I have no idea why her parents named her “Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii” but thank God a judge ruled in her favor — she can now change her weird name. Colleen MacLeod, lawyer for the nine-year-old said: “She never told her close friends her real name for fear of being mocked and teased. She told people her name was ‘K’.” Family Court Judge Rob Murfitt expressed dismay about a New Zeland trend of giving children bizarre names and in a ruling made public that cited a list of unfortunate names that he said were embarrassing for children.

Names blocked by registration officials included: Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Stallion, Twisty Poi, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit. However, the names Number 16 Bus Shelter, Midnight Chardonnay and even Violence were allowed. Brian Clarke, registrar general of Births, Deaths and Marriages said New Zealand law does not allow names that would cause offence to a reasonable person, that are 100 characters or more long, that include titles or military rank or that include punctuation marks or numerals.

Loved ones into Diamonds?

You can now cremate your loved one and from their ashes, a diamond will be created for you to keep until the end of time. After all, diamonds are forever. If it sounds weird to you, well... it is! But there is really a service that does this, Algordanza, a small company based in the mountainous southeast of Switzerland, uses the ashes of dead people to make diamonds at prices starting at around $7,488. U.S.-based LifeGem and Britain’s Phoenix Diamonds also offer diamonds made from Hair. Hair contains more carbon than ashes meaning a diamond can be created from the hair of a living person.

Algordanza, which means remembrance in Romansch, Chairman Veit Brimer explained, “Some people find it helpful to go to the cemetery and grieve, and they leave their grief in the cemetery. There are some people who, for whatever reason, do not want to have this farewell. Astonishingly these are mainly Christian people. They say: ‘Why should I say goodbye? I’ll see my husband in 15 years in heaven anyway.’”

Fun Fact about George Washington

On February 22, 1732 George Washington was born.

George Washington was the only of all Founding Fathers to free his slaves.
Marijuana was the primary crop grown by George Washington at Mount Vernon.
He was the first of many Masons to serve as president.
Washington rejected a movement among army officers to make him king of the United States. Washington is the only president who was elected unanimously.

Hadron Collider

The Hadron Collider is a massive particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles. Two beams of subatomic particles protons or lead ions will travel in opposite directions, then colliding the two beams head-on at very high energy. Some people are afraid that it will create strange matter which turns everything it touches into strange matter, meaning everything could become strange matter. To my understanding strange matter is basically miniature big bangs. Another fear is the fact that doing this give off tiny black holes , which most evaporate milliseconds after creation. Some people think that there is a possibility of creating a large black hole that doesn't evaporate.

helicopter

Check out this game, it is kinda fun. I found it while I was at home, bored. It can be entertaining if you have nothing else to do. Now, I think I will go and do something. don't know what though

My Major

Well, I have changed my major. I have changed from Industrial Engineering to Business Management. These are pretty much the same thing, with out the physics and chemistry. It is really amazing how one bad experience with an instructor that cannot teach can change things.
Oh well, I have a much better mind for business anyway.

Idiots

Wow, the title of this video says it all "Dumbass kids trying to pull a car out of the snow". How dumb can someone be? Honestly? I wonder how much farther they thought they could get the car into the snow. Maybe they should have pulled it straight out, instead of pulling it deeper into the snow.
Some times, I am still amazed at how stupid people really are. I am glad there are stupid people though, it gives me some thing to laugh at. HaHa

Snakes

Did anyone know that there are no snakes in New Zeland? Looks like that is the perfect place for most of my friends to go. lol.

Frogs

This is a little FYI. Frogs shed their skin to keep it healthy, and after they shed it they eat it.
They actually pull it off over their head like a sweater. They have to keep their skin healthy because they use it to breath and drink. Amazing.

Irony

Two men who stole a kayak and went joyriding on Moon Lake near New Port Richey, Fla., drowned when the boat capsized, talk about irony. Sounds like they got what they deserved.

America's Workforce

A supervisor at the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services told a Billings Gazette reporter in March that some of his employees were complaining that new computers delivered to the office lacked games like solitaire, hearts and Minesweeper, and that it wasn't fair that employees with older computers still had the games.

Do they not have better things to worry about?

Many people believe Israelis have more important things to worry about today, but the city government of Petah Tikva is the latest municipality to implement a registry of dog DNA, to encourage owners to pick up after their pets in the city's streets and parks. Abandoned droppings will be analyzed and those dogs' owners punished. Nevermind any of the shooting or things blowing up, just watch out for the doggy mines.

Here is the article.

Tomb of The Unknowns

In 2003, Colorado businessman John Haines, who was concerned about dangerous cracks in the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery, went to great lengths to find and purchase a huge slab of the identical high-grade white marble of the Tomb and offered it, free of charge, shipping included, to the Army (which has been considering reconstruction of the Tomb since 1987). In the ensuing five years, according to an August Denver Post story, the Army continues to ignore Haines, yet periodically shows interest in opening the reconstruction to competitive bidding, but mostly just allows the idea to languish. Is this not just one of the most retarded things ever?

History-Memory Narative

Through out my primary education, I was led to belive that college was going to be more diffucult than it actually is.  When in elementary school I can remember our teachers always giving us home work and saying, "This is half as much as you will get in high school." but when in fact it was actually twice as much as I recieved in highscool.  Now when I was in highschool I can remember teachers saying the same things, but again now that I have been through two years of secondary education and have an A.A.S. in Computer Aided Design and Virtual Reality Technology, and am working towards a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering and an MBA I can say that high school was much more labor intensive than college.  In my secondary education it is much easier to get help when I need it than it was in highschool and my class schedule is much more open.  I remember being filled with so much dred when I entered college the first time, I thought that I would never have any free time.  Sometimes I wish I didn't have as much free time as I do.  This experience has taught me that teachers try to make thing seem much harder than they are so students will succeed.  A prime example of this is my Chem 167 class, Dr. Kingston gives rather difficult examples in class and on the quizes, but as long as you can do them then the exams will be very easy.

Music

Music. What is music exactly? Is it sound or is it rhythm? Music plays a large roll in our society. It sets moods, themes, and even expectations.

What does music consist of, well let us take a look.

First we have tempo, how fast is the rhythm. Is the piece FORTISSIMO or pianissimo, is the pace Andante or Vivace! ? Not many pieces are just one of these things, but they are many. This is what gives music a story line, if you will. Pieces such as The Great Locomotive Chase by Robert W. Smith, clearly tells the tale of a train chase. This is a very intense piece of music and very fun to play, especially for baritone and trombone.

With a little back ground information, we see the train chase with our ears more than ever.

The scene is set during the Civil War Era, around 1862 in Northern Georgia. Union soldiers, led by James Andrews, slipped into Confederate territory to steal a locomotive to slow the W&A railroad. This was a vital line for the Confederate supply line.

Pay close attention to the scenes set by the piece. Play the song in the play list.

Notice how the piece starts out slow and deliberate, like some one is sneaking around. Then the piece starts to pick up speed, maybe like a steam locomotive? Now we are at an accelerating pace, things are getting faster and faster, we hear a few gunshots. The music turns soft and flowing, leading to something. The trombones come in with a triumphant sounding chorus. The train is loosing speed and finally a wreck?

This piece is a great example of how music can tell a story with out words.

In the night an Invisible

Assassin preys upon the weak and weary.

The assassin carries the scythe of death

And the freedom...

To bring upon this would be a relief

to the one who carried out the woeful act

that night, down by the river.

His mind is heavy with burden and bourbon.  His hands

Always red, as if stained

By the darkest of crimson

Inks.  Oh how the soloemn peace of death

Would be very welcome.

School of Rock

School of Rock is probably one of the best movies ever made. Jack Black is hilarious, because "the legend of the rent is way hardcore."

Well, off to the bars. Thirsty Thursday and all. Ha ha. Should be an interesting night. Hope you enjoy the videos!!

The Greatest Instrument Ever M/PLayed.

The trombone is probably the greatest instruments ever made or played. I am actually quite proficient in the art of playing the trombone. I was actually accepted into the President's Own, until the Marine Corps found out I had a pin in my knee. They was going to send me to West Point Music Academy.

The Song I have attached is a piece of work I preformed for my audition, but this is not preformed by me in the recording. The Virtuoso Trombone. I have also included the most fun trombone piece ever, Lassus Trombone, and the most exciting concert band piece, The Great Locomotive Chase. The Great Locomotive Chase is a piece of music that describes a great locomotive chase that happened during the Civil War. Throught out the piece the images of the chase are created.

Enjoy!

The weekend is over

Well, it is Sunday night and the week end is over.  Everyone must go back to class tomorrow.  The week end was pretty fun, some friends and I went out Saturday night to the local bars.  We had a few drinks, then went to a dance club.

Today, was just kind of my day to relax.  I got up around 7 am and helped the neighbor with some fence, then went home and had lunch.  Then I headed back to Ames.  Long drive thought, but pretty easy.

Albia

This weekend was homecoming at my high school. The game was fun, even though we lost. I met up with some friends I hadn't seen since we graduated. It is hard to think that I have been out of high school for two years now. After the game I went to a friends house and played Monopoly for a few hours and got back to my house around one or so. So far, this is all I have done this weekend.

Career Fair

Well, today was the engineering career fair.  I spoke with many different companies.  Most of the companies I spoke with were more interested in my Associates of Applied Science from Indian Hills than they were in my Bachelors in Industrial Engineering.  The representative from Lennox said he would have offered me a job on the spot if I wanted it.  The internship market is pretty well open in the Industrial Engineering field.  Many companies were also interested in my experience at Mechdyne Corp.  They all wanted to know if I was qualified to work on visualization systems that they had installed by Barco, which is a major competitor of Mechdyne.

Oh and Pineapple Express is probably one of the best movies ever. If you want to hear a better song hit the next arrow. ;-)

Weekly Blog Assignment September 21

Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000168 EndHTML:0000002053 StartFragment:0000000489 EndFragment:0000002036

This video gives us a small sample of this kid's identity. First of all one has to be somewhat out going to make a video and post it so thousands of people can see it. Second, we know that he must be from a middle class family because he owns or at least has access to a video camera, internet, and a computer. We also see a small glimpse of the neighborhood he lives in when we see his house. It is also apparent that the kid is not Canadian, because most likely a Canadian would not sing about themselves in such away. To analyze this video a little bit more, one might say that this young man is some what of a want to be comedian. We could also assume that he possibly does not like the band GreenDay or he loves Weird Al.

All clips from youtube, rather they be long or short give us some idea of the person postings identity. It gives us an idea of what they like and what makes them laugh. It gives us a greater view of their identity when they create the video, because we get to see the environment they live in and their views on society and the world.

Crazy Week

Last week was nuts.  I was extremely busy, and I had at least one important meeting every night.  Monday I had a meeting with my advisor to discuss my grad plan.  Tuesday night I had a meeting with a possible employer for an internship in Florida.  Wednesday I spoke with a recruiter from USC for a possible transfer at semester.  Thursday I had a meeting with my calc group to do our weely homework problem. Finally, Friday I had a meeting with my engineering 101 instructor to go over my resume and try to cut it down to two pages.  We didn't manage to get that done.  Hopefully this week will be less busy so I can have more time to do my homework.

Week 2 Assignment

Let us set the scene, deep in the jungle of Africa. The trees are as dense as pea-soup and the vines are about the same color. The textures are amazing, the velvet texture of the petals on the blooming vines, the roughness of the tree bark, and of course there are the smells of rotting wood and plant matter combined with the sweetness of the blooming vines. The colors are extravagant, all shades of blue, violet, and greens. Some plant life almost seems to be living, when brushed up against it, clasps its leaves together almost as a plea for you to leave it be.

As one wanders through the brush and vines, you become disoriented. The walls of the jungle seem to close in on you, and you begin to feel the onset of panic. First comes the paranoia, the feeling that there is some one or some thing behind you, stalking you and waiting on the right time to make the killing blow. Now the urge to run sets in, but every time you try to take a stride a vine catches your foot and you stumble and fall to the ground. It is as if the jungle is a massive octopus and the vines are its tentacles, each one intent on grabbing you and holding on for life.

Now you have managed to free your self from the untameable beast and have found a clearing, but to no avail because now you feel as if there is some thing moving in the brown flowing grass surrounding you on all sides. Maybe it wasn't paranoia after all? You hear a large thunderous roar behind you. You see a blinding white light as you feel daggers enter your flesh, and the warm sensation of blood streaming down your back. You some how manage to roll over to meet your attacker face to face, but it is too late; the world is becoming darker and darker.

As the world fades to black and you draw your last breath, you see...

Boredom

Man, I never knew one place could be so boring.  All my room mates are gone for the weekend, and everyone else I know is gone as well.  So here I am setting alone in my apartment, pretty pathetic right?  I did watch the Iowa-Iowa State game. It was kind of a one sided match up.  We definately have some work to do.  We do need to quit relying on the side like to call audiables for us.  Other than all this it is going to be a pretty boring weekend.  I should have just went home.

September 11, 2008

Well, today kind of sucked. Went to class this morning and it started raining, that was no big deal, managed to keep dry. Engineering 101 has got to be the most useless class ever, we either get all the points for the assignment or none, and you can only miss a total of fifteen points. I tried to get into the one for my major, but I would have to completely rearrange my schedule in order to do that. I also don't care for my engineering 160 class, because it is mostly review.
I have been trying to have some courses reviewed from Indian Hills, to go towards my minor in Industrial Tech. Sometimes I kind of feel like I wasted the last two years, but I do have an Associates degree to show for it. I can take contract jobs for companies like Johndeere and Vermeer. Contract jobs pay well, usually five to ten thousand dollars per thirty to sixty day job, but no benifits. You are basically self employed.

Blog Assignment September 7, 2008

I can honestly say that I really do not understand the sprinkling of powdered sugar thing, maybe it is a metaphor for sugar coating her harshness.  I mean that was kind of confusing for me.  I got that she wanted to be different and not lead a life like her mother, serving others.  She said, "I wasn't going to be anything like what was expected of me." It seems like she never wanted to conform to the social "norm" of the time. She wanted to stand out in the crowd.  I interpereted it as she wanted to be seen in kind of the image as Rosie the Riveter, strong and could do what needed done.  She even says that she wanted to look like " A woman who could do what was necssary..."  Maybe it is not Rosie she was trying to be but more like Lucy Stone?  Lucy Stone was one of the first women to earn a college degree in the United States, she graduated top of her class from Oberlin College and went on to organize the first national women's rights convention.  I take this from when she commented on the face that she was the first to graduate highschool.  I thought the ending was kind of odd as well when she finally agreed to having her picture taken at a laundromat, standing over a washer with a laundry basket proped up on one hip.

It is funny, that now that I have written about this, I may have a bit better understanding of the story.

September 5

(some SolidWorks and ProE models I drafted)

I declared my major yesterday. I have decided to go into Industrial Engineering and will obtain a minor in Industrial Technology. My decision to pursue this career path was based on my love for business and engineering. Industrial Engineers are basically process managers ranging from controlling material flow to human resources.

The Industrial Technology part stems from my degree that I just obtained from Indian Hills Community College, which was an A.A.S in Computer Aided Design and Vurtiual Reality Technology. This degree is based around CAD/CAM software such as ProEngineer, SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, and Rhino. These CAD/CAM courses are a large part of the Industrial Technology program, so hopefully I can have my credits from Indian Hills evaluated and put towards my minor.

This was a relief for me, because at my two years at Indian Hills I accumulated a total of 84 credits but ISU only recognized 34 and the Industrial Engineer program only recognized 18 of those 34. It sort of seemed like I wasted my last two years. Mabe I should have came strait to ISU after highschool, but oh well, such is life.

Tuesday, September 2

Well, the weekend is over and it's back to school. This weekend was pretty exciting; I hung out with some friends at the local social club on Friday when I got back to Albia, then Saturday we hit it again, and Sunday we went to watch Pineapple Express.

Pineapple Express was a pretty hilarious movie.

Finally, Monday rolled around and it was time to head back to Ames. It was a long enough drive that my right arm got sun burned and wind burned.

I had forgotten about some homework as well and had to do that before I went to bed, got done around one in the morning.
